Where to Eat and Drink

If you're coming to Ludlow at short notice, you aren't going to get into the top restaurants - so these are the places you should be looking into instead.

Historynet.com has recently run an article about Ludlow's gastronomy, titled "The Culinary Treasures of Ludlow."  Please view the article here.

The Parkway

A great little place hidden down a little alleyway on the right as you go down Corve Street - lovely tapas and sandwiches. Good outside sitting, (OK no view) but most importantly you have a good chance of actually sitting down here, and if you can it's well worth it. Independent chef - reasonable drinks  - this is a hidden gem. It's also very near our office -  it's very good and easy to use -  relaxed atmoshphere and the food is great. Parkway website

Charlton Arms

Off the main drag - down by the river and the weir. What a shame people don't know to come here; it's the best sit-down view in Ludlow - the river, the weir and the castle. You can't beat it. They have a great new balcony for drinkers which has a fantastic view  - lots of room and some real ales - they even have a car park. Look at your map - Temeside, Whitcliffe Road - Recommended    Charlton Website

Chang Thai and Globe Bar - SUMMER SUNDAY LUNCH THAI BARBECUES now sadly finished - sign up to our newsletter or follow us on twitter and we'll tell you when they start again next year.

An informal  Thai restaurant that used to be a pub - how weird - but it works!  The nicest garden in town on a sunny afternoon - you can just have a delicious Thai beer (Singha) or you can have a 3 course meal. The garden is nice and it's like being on a foreign holiday in the middle of Ludlow. Perfect for Sunday lunch. There is also the Globe Bar right next to it - sort of connected - they use the same garden and share customers.  It's down a side street parallel to the market - opposite De Greys tea room - fantastic - right in my TOP favourites. And people dont know about it - perfect. SUNDAY BARBECUE - fantastic!  check this out

Church Inn

Nice pub by the Butter Cross - on the way to the Market Square. Good mix of customers - friendly and the  food is good - you'll never get to sit down on Food Fair weekend.  Excellent rooms with fantastic view if you are at the back of the place. Fantastic accommodation.  Here they are

Assembly Rooms

A strange one this - it is the arts/theatre/cinema space for Ludlow, but the nice thing is that the staff just don't care how long it takes you to drink a cup of tea so it's great for a long cheap sit down. If you see 'home made steak and kidney pie' on their board, it's top class. Also the ham, eggs and chips is a MUST.  It's in Mill Street - round the corner form the market - good reliable Mum, Dad and kids destination,  if a bit unadventurous - Assemby rooms website

Koo restaurant   (Japanese)

It's in completely the wrong place down the hill at the end of Old Street - authentic japanese food, fixed menu (I think) and very well worth the effort of finding it!  5 of us went to dine there and it was an excellent and fascinating meal - it's the ground floor of a terraced house - small and not at all intimidating. Try it out.  Koo Website

Costa Coffee

Tremendously unpopular with the coffee shops of Ludlow when it opened  -  but why?  Surely people will make their own choice?  Yes it's a faceless chain but some people feel safer wth 'fake'. Also has one of the only set of sunny outside tables - The 21st century comes to Ludlow?

Awaiting review

Will shortly be writing up Egos, the Blue Boar, The Clive, The Unicorn, The Olive Branch, The Queens, The Feathers, the two curry houses (all of which I've eaten in and liked but they didn't make it to my 'must visit' list),  and maybe I'll be saying a few words about 'the big name restaurants' - If I can get some reviews from people who've tried them.
